Welcome to the Custer State Park Buffalo Roundup. This year our festival is filled with great delights - wonderful performances, free events, and lots of fun - as well as workshops, master classes and informative demonstrations.
It is a special year for us, one in which we have focused on the State Park Buffalo Roundup mission not only to bring nationally and internationally renowned artists into our midst, but to give back to the community through free events and community partnerships designed to showcase local artists.
The Custer State Park Buffalo Roundup is set to enrapture festival lovers once again. Our venue will leave you fascinated, captivated and enthralled. With performances ranging from classic to contemporary, traditional to avant-garde, each act will inspire you to greater heights.
Custer State Park Buffalo Roundup Step back in time for one of the iconic images of the "Wild West" - the buffalo herds on the Great Plains. Every fall, in late September or early October, cowboys and park staff gather Custer State Park's thunderous 1500 head of buffalo and drive them into corrals. Designated viewing spots, described by the organizer, Craig Pugsley, as "pretty darn close", are picked out on the hill and mountainsides by the park rangers, for the adventurous viewer.
The dust flies and the ground trembles as the largest herd of buffalo in the country is rounded up and driven past by cowboys on horseback. If you want a taste of "real America," this has to be it. The buffalo are rounded up annually to prepare them for the autumn buffalo sales, which normally take place on the third Saturday in November.…...more!
